For many European Jews, life is becoming more and more unsafe. It is a tragedy. Together, we can make it a triumph. Our doors are open. The Canadian Jewish community is thriving. Make it your story!
So, nu, why Aliyah North?
We support Jews making aliyah, but recognize that not all European Jews wish to live in Israel. We want to encourage an alternative. Because…
- Western nations will inevitably become more hostile to Israel and Jews the more their Jewish population declines. In Canada, we can continue to tell the truth about Israel, and promote our historic friendship.
- Jews should not be ghetto-ized – even in our home of Israel. The rest of the world should never be Judenrein.
- The ideal world has both a thriving Israel, and strong Jewish communities in the diaspora. If we must retrench to rebuild, Canada is the best place to start.
The intention is not to create a website, but a network of information and communication. For European Jews to understand the benefits of life in Canada. For Canadian Jews, and non-Jews, to welcome our Jewish immigrants, at the airports and in our communities (think, for example, of the welcomes organized for Syrian refugees in Canada, or those making aliyah in Israel). For the world to understand the threats faced by European Jews, and for Canadians to consider how we can prevent that here.
In the coming weeks we will be adding information about Canada and what makes it a great place to live in; Canada’s Jewish community; updates on anti-Semitism globally with a focus on Europe’s Jewish communities; resources on coming to Canada and contacts with our communities; a French-language mirrored site. Eventually, we will have a system for Canadians to get involved in welcoming Jewish immigrants.
